The SIFT (Symbiosis Institute of Foreign Trade) library which was inaugurated in 1992 is today recognized as the SIIB (Symbiosis Institute of International Business) Knowledge Resource Centre and is considered an integral part of all academic activities.

The library is located on the 1st floor of the SIIB campus at Hinjewadi in Pune. Over the years the library has managed to built-up a wonderful collection of more than 17000 books relevant to each subject which is being taught at the institute. With a subscription to over 100 well-known Periodicals (Journals/ Magazines) the library has become a one stop destination for any reference material as well as management books.

All the functions of SIIB Library are being done through computerized process and KOHA Library software is being used to manage all administrative functions of the Library. The member of the library has access to more than 40,000 E-Journals, more than 7 E-Databases and more than 100000 E-Books through SIU Library portal.

Library has memberships of some well-known organizations like, MCCIA, AIMS, APICS and SHRM etc.

Each and every student of SIIB will get registered in National Digital Library (NDL) after his/ her admission confirmed. After registration under NDL Portal, student will get his/ her credentials from NDL Support team. The National Digital Library (NDL India) is an all-digital library that stores information (metadata) about different types of digital contents including books, articles, videos, audios, thesis and other educational materials relevant for users from varying educational levels and capabilities. It provides a single-window search facility to access digital contents currently existing in India as well as other digital sources under a single umbrella.

General rules and regulations for using the Library:


The student would be given 4 cards in all (Only one book / magazine will be issued against each card) 1 Blue Card for the issue of periodical (only back issues) Other 3 Cards for the issue of books. PLEASE NOTE THAT LIBRARY CARDS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE

  • In case of loss/theft of Readers’ Cards, the Library Staff must be informed immediately.
  • Duplicate Readers’ Card would be issued on payment of Rs.100/- per card.
  • The timings for issue of books will be Monday to Saturday- 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The library will be open from 8.30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on week days and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Books / Periodicals are issued for a period of 7 days.
  • Any delay in return of the book/periodical will result in a fine of Rs.5/- per day from the scheduled date of return.
  • In case of loss or damage of book/magazine, the person concerned would replace the copy of the same as a penalty.
  • Return of books before leaving for summers for the stock verification process is mandatory.
  • The following books/magazines will not be available for home issuing and will be available only for reading in the SIIB Library.

    4. WTO Publications
  • The students can photocopy material from Reference books with due permission of the Librarian subject to copyright related laws provided by the publisher.
  • Material from books/magazines may be photocopied on the deposit of your Identity Card and subject to copy right laws. Photocopy shop is available at the basement of SIIB Building.
  • Request for photocopying the entire book / document will not be entertained.
  • Outsiders will not be allowed to borrow books from the library.
  • Space permitting, they may be allowed to use the reference section, on payment of Rs.100/- per day.
  • The Librarian has the discretionary powers to admit / refuse admission to an outsider to use the library and his/her decision shall be deemed final.

Students are required to return all the Books issued to them & the Four Library cards before leaving the Institute after Semester IV. In case the same is not returned money will be deducted from the students’ caution money.


The students, faculties and staff members of the SIIB are entitled to become the members of the library.

  • Every borrower has issued 3 Book cards and 1 blue card for back issue of periodical.
  • These Library cards are non-transferable.
  • The teaching and the non-teaching staff are required to sign in the issue register while issuing or returning the books.
  • Sub lending of books and cards is a misuse of membership and strict action can be taken.
  • While leaving the library, the users are required to log out from the in-out system. If a user is found with a library material not issued to him strict action will be taken.
  • Books / Periodicals are issued for a period of 7 days. Any book / Periodical returned after the due date is charged a fine of Rs.5 per day.
  • The users should not write or disfigure the library books and due care must be taken in this respect.
  • The member must check the physical condition of the book or else while returning the book he will be charged to pay for the cost of the book.
  • The loss of borrower’s card must be intimated to the Librarian immediately and the user will be issued a duplicate card on payment of Rs.100. The Library staff will not be responsible for misuse of the lost library card of the member.

  1. How do I borrow books? How many can I borrow at a time? 
    You have to come to the Library and have to search a book by your own, there is open access facility is available in the Library. If you have any problem in searching the required book, Library support team is available at the circulation counter for your help. For borrowing book or Journal/Magazine you should submit your Library card at the circulation counter. You can get three books and a Journal/ Magazine at a time against Library cards.

  2. Can I renew books online? How many times can I renew books?
    To renew books or Journal you have visit library personally with the book or Journal. Online system is available for re-issuing procedure but it is not yet in use due to some technical issues. You can renew the books for the three times if there is no reservation request is put by anybody else.

  3. How much are fines for books returned late?
    Rs. 5.00 per day will be charged for the late returned books / Journals after the due date which is being provided on the pink due date slip of each book.

  4. How do I request books that are on loan?
    You may use ‘Reservation’ option for the required book which is issued through web opac link of KOHA.

  5. How can I find a required Book or Journal?
    You can check the availability of the required boo / journal through KOHA web opac link.

  6. The library doesn’t have a book I need. How can I get it?
    You may suggest a Book or Journal after due approval from you HOD teacher. You can send an email to your HOD of your required books’ details like Title, Author, Publisher etc. If approved, your HOD will send us that title for purchase in the Library.

  7. When I borrow and return books ?
    Timing of Library’s Circulation counter is 9.00 am to 5.30 pm on Monday to Saturday. During this timing you may borrow and return the books. On Sundays there will be no Issue / Return procedure.

  8. How do I find a book/journal article for my Projects or Assignments?

    Different Online databases are available in the SIIB through SIU Library portal and also through SIIB Library. You may search your required article or research paper with the help of these e-resources. If any problem is there you contact Librarian for easy access to these resources.

  9.  How do I use the DVD collection?
    CDs / DVDs are available in the Library, but not for home lending purpose. You may take the required CD and make a copy of the same in the Library only. And after copying the CD you have to return it before leaving.

  10. What online resources are available?
    List of Online resources are available in LibraryManual. Link is also provided to access these different Online Databases.

  11. The Library is full. Where else can I study?
    As a student of SIIB, you are eligible to use reading hall facility of any of the Symbiosis Institute’s Library. In Hinjawadi campus, you may avail the facility of Reading Room of SCIT and SCM HRD Library.

  12. Does the library have WiFi?
    Yes, wireless access is available in the Library. For information on connecting to the WiFi connection contact IT Resource Centre’s Support team member.

  13. Can I take a photocopy of the book/ Journal of library?
    Yes. You may take a required book on your ID Card, and take Photo copy of the same from the basement Xerox Centre. You may take a photo copy of the part of the Reference Books which are not allowed to take outside of the Library.

  14. Is there computer is available in the Library?
    Yes there is a computer available in the Library for Students.
